To that, there is only one comment that could truly sum up my thoughts: *facepalm*. Somehow, somewhere, someone decided that vore lovers must all be devil worshipers. One of the worst rumors by far is that vore is somehow (somehow!) a religion. And while it is a fetish for many vore lovers, there are just as many that are not aroused by it, and simply find it fascinating. Others still believe that vore is exclusively a fetish, that is, sexually arousing. I don't know exactly how much of the community is devoted to each type, but I know the amount of non-furry vore is substantial. Though furry vore is very popular in the community, there is plenty of non-furry vore. Others believe that vore is exclusive to furries. Sure, maybe there are a few vore lovers who also love food and eating in general (I love to cook, for example, but only as an art, and I do not relate it to vore), but it isn't just eating that defines vore, and vore lovers can easily eat their food, and treat it like food, just like anyone else. Some believe that vore lovers also love food, or love to watch people eat. Some vore lovers believe it to be a miswiring of the brain, as many fetishes are presumed to be, but there is no concrete evidence. True, it is rather out of the norm, but this does not make it harmful to life.
Vore is as much a disorder as fantasizing about your lover is a disorder. Some think that vore is a mental disorder. Very few people would be willing to do it if it was real, and even they have very specific requirements for it, such as it being completely safe for both parties. I have asked many vore lovers what they would do if vore could be done safely in real life, and I have yet to receive an affirmative answer. (Besides, that's just pure cannibalism, not vore.) Vore is purely fantasy, and happens only in imagination and fiction. I have been asked if I've killed, cooked and eaten anyone by someone who truly did not understand the subject. People first hearing about vore may assume that those who enjoy it practice it in real life, on real people. Vore: Interest (or enjoyment) in the fantasy of being eaten or eating another being, be it sexual or other. While cannibalism is the consumption of another being of the same species, vore can be the consumption of any other being, not just another human being. However, almost any vore lover would tell you they revile cannibalism, and find it to be completely unrelated to vore. This is likely because it is typically related to cannibalism by most people outside of the community.
Vore is often tagged as a 'taboo' subject. And as vore is not always a fetish, it is simpler to use a more encompassing term. However, because of the sound of the word when spoken, it is rarely used, as it tends to be misinterpreted as a fetish for homosexual men. As far as terms for a fetish go, only 'phagophilia' is correct. Vore is short for 'vorare', or 'to eat' in Latin, while 'philia' is Greek, making it an incorrect term to begin with. Some believe that 'vore' is short for 'vorarephilia' (sexual fetish for vore). Though most, of course, find vore beautiful or attractive in some sense or other.
Having exposed themselves to the subject more than most people would, vore lovers know just how unusual and vulgar it can be. However, many people are afraid of vore, or find it disgusting. Others begin to enjoy it later on in life, be it from teens to middle age. Many vore lovers first find an attraction to the subject at a young age - though they may not understand it, or know there is a word for it. This makes the vore community incredibly diverse and colorful. Some prefer the literal, or a more visceral meaning. Some like it for the metaphor of it, or the deeper meaning. For some, it's a fascination or interest, for others, it's a fetish or kink. However, vore is a very complex subject that cannot hope to be represented accurately by such a simple definition. Well, first off, what exactly is vore? At its barest minimum, vore is a fascination with the idea of being eaten or eating another being.
